It's Easter! Yay! I love Easter. I love the new beginnings that Easter promises. Better beginnings than New Year's holds, largely because it's April and I find projects more easily started in spring when the rest of the world is coming back from the brink of death that is winter. Not to mention that this winter has been aggressively terrible.
I kept telling myself that it's just prepping me for Scotland.
As promised, some updates on the list and some pictures that I've been taking. I've added a #13 based on Jack's suggestion. I will now attempt to try at least 7 ethnic cuisines I've never had before. Scottish will be an easy one to get. Please help me on this.
You'll also notice some missing numbers. I need suggestions!
#1- Read the complete works of Jane Austen
I'm switching to Pride and Prejudice after being told I'd read through that faster. On the novel side, however, I just finished The Diving Bell and the Butterfly and Middlesex. The Diving Bell and the Butterfly was sweet and pieced together in a way that is conducive to reading in small bursts. Middlesex is just wonderful, as is Eugenides' Virgin Suicides, if not a bit long-winded at the end.
#2- Finish the quilt
I've been making good progress on this. Every Tuesday night I'm working on it during watershed. I have hopes of getting the quilting part finished before my birthday so my mom can help with the finishing part.
#3- Start a PhD program
To be continued in September/October
#6- Complete a Half-Marathon
Done! March 22, 2014 Waco, Texas, hardest half-marathon in Texas... the Bearathon!
#7- Complete a Sprint Triathalon
I'm planning on doing one in Pearland the second weekend of July.
#8- Day-Long Hike
To hopefully be accomplished in Colorado this summer
#11- Take 3 pictures/week
I've been pretty good about this. The photo printer at Wal-Greens has definitely seen a lot of business from me lately. Sarah and Chris both suggested printing more pictures before moving and this blog list is a good motivator for taking the pictures I want to print. I may actually be getting better at taking them too (I've almost mastered the real camera selfie).
#12- Clear out 30 items from my closet
Done! And will be continued to be done as we start packing.
#13- Try at least 7 new, different kinds of ethnic cuisines
Oddly enough Jack's suggestion. Just added it today. I'm hoping my fabulous SILs can help with this one.
#16- Go on a silent retreat
Yet to be done, but a co-worker suggested a place in Houston I could go to
#17- Read a psalm everyday
As best as I can tell I'm on track. I'm making a good try of it regardless.
#18- Live abroad
To be continued in September!
#21- Keep a blog
It's getting updated on a "weekly" basis
#26- Learn to drive standard
We're trying to figure out who should teach me
#27- Crochet two scarves
I finished a practice scarf and have the wool and hooks to the real ones.
#28- Learn to change a tire
See #26
